CoM-TPC-2024
he Conference of Miletus is a series of short lectures from members of the Thales Academy leadership team discussing what is true, what is good, and what is beautiful and the importance of these transcendental ideas to classical education.
The purpose of the Conference of Miletus is to have a unique, TEDTalk-like event for classical educators, where we identify ideas central to our calling as teachers and expand on them in a way that would help all of us who labor in classrooms and gyms and mezzanines orient our minds to the values and virtues of classical education.
This year, the Conference of Miletus will feature four short lectures on the First Principles of Thales Academy. These principles are outlined below:
(1) Moral Philosophy: Educate students to cultivate practical wisdom (prudence) and the ability to make moral decisions in the Judeo-Christian and Aristotelian tradition.
(2) Natural Order: Teach students to recognize beauty in the order of the universe and the basic principles that govern it, both in the natural realm and the human realm.
(3) Our Intellectual Inheritance: As teachers and students at a classical school, we have received as our inheritance the literary and historical treasures of the Western canon.
(4) Human Dignity: Teach students to preserve the dignity and uniqueness of every individual in alignment with the imago dei and the attendant concept of natural law.
Speakers included Robert Luddy, Anthony Esolen, Matthew Ogle, and Winston Brady.
